The Blue Light Symphony Orchestra is delighted to welcome you to take part in an intense weekend of music making, tackling the most important piece of music of the 20th Centuary. The workshop is held at an excellent venue, close to Victoria Station in London. We do not advertise the venue publicly for security reasons. Immerse yourself in this riot inducing music over two days, with expert coaching from experienced music tutors. The BLSO welcomes everyone to our workshops, although we give priority places to emergency services personnell, the military and NHS employees.
For just £35 (students go free) you will get:
- All music provided
- Expert tuition in orchestra sections from experienced coaches
- Tea, Coffee and snacks. (Lunch not included)
- Two full days of playing, from 11am to 5pm
- Invite your friends ot a runthrough at 4pm on Sunday
So many musicians keep coming back to our workshops because they are friendly and relaxed but we take the music seriously and strive to play it as well as we possibly can. Here are a few of our Google reviewsand you can check out more by searching for us on Google.
Great atmosphere, lovely talented people. Challenging music played really well, an enjoyable experience. Very well looked after with pastries, biscuits, tea & coffee and plenty of breaks.
A wonderful Sunday workshop with the BLSO, learning and playing Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances - a new work for me, and both challenging and exhilarating as we explored it together. The BLSO is such an amazing idea - to play with fellow emergency service colleagues in an environment where our focus is entirely on music is a fabulous way to spend a Sunday!
Fabulous orchestra and members - brilliant standard of playing

What Can I Expect?
The way we work is that people apply for a place on our workshops and then we select players to take part based on the following criteria:
- Order of applications
- Emergency Services First
- Affiliates (Military, NHS, family of any of the above etc)
- Anyone else
We finalise players around 6 weeks before the workshop. Wind and brass places are more limted so tend to go early but we always have space for extra strings.
You can fill in an application form to take part in the workshop here.
This video was taken at our weekend workshop last year where we played Mahler's 5th Symphony and will give you a flavour of what to expect at a BLSO weekend workshop.
